Wie damals üblich, dienten u.a. Kupferstiche von Jean-Antoine Watteau, Jacques Callot sowie Einflüsse des aufkommenden Klassizismus als seine Vorlagen.

Hannah K. ★★★★★

The chapters on fireworks and illuminations really bring those multi-week festivities to life—I found myself picturing the masked balls as I read. It’s dense with historical detail, so not a quick read, but perfect for slow, immersive evenings.

Jason S. ★★★★★

The detailed descriptions of the court festivals really bring the era to life, especially the sections on the multi-week celebrations. I found myself completely absorbed in the lavish descriptions of the masquerade balls and firework displays.

Adam ★★★★★

The detail on the gold staffiert is exquisite, it catches the light beautifully as you walk past. I was amazed reading about how these festivals were truly total works of art, and this piece captures that spirit perfectly.
