Max Essers Figur "Fischotter" aus dem Jahr 1931 vereint im ikonischen Weiß des Meissener Porzellans alle charakteristischen Eigenschaften des scheuen Geschöpfes zu einem zauberhaften Kunstwerk: das glatte Fell, die Gespanntheit der Muskeln, die Schnelligkeit der Bewegungen, das feine Zittern der Schnauze. So versetzt die Skulptur den Betrachter unmittelbar in die Lebenswelt des Tieres und übertrifft sich geradezu selbst an Wirklichkeitstreue. Mit klaren, fließenden Linien und Liebe zum Detail wird das Skulptur-Kunstwerk zum Leben erweckt. Die im strahlenden Weiß funkelnde Figur "Fischotter" wurde 1937 in Paris mit dem Grand Prix ausgezeichnet.
