Discover how to choose between the impressive Vogel Eichelhäher and the charming Vogel Rotkehlchen. This guide offers decision rules for Meissen bird figurine collectors.
Quick answer
For a commanding centerpiece, choose the Vogel Eichelhäher; for a delicate accent, the Vogel Rotkehlchen.
Why size and presence matter
The two August Ringler bird figurines serve different display purposes. The Vogel Eichelhäher stands 39 cm tall—about the height of a large vase—making it a focal point for a mantel, sideboard, or entryway console. The Vogel Rotkehlchen, at 12 cm, is better suited for a desk, bookshelf, or grouping with other small treasures. Choosing between them depends entirely on the space you want to fill and the visual weight you prefer.
Authenticity and craftsmanship
Both pieces come from the August Ringler collection, which continues a tradition of naturalistic bird depiction that began at Meissen in the 18th century. The hand-painted decoration and fine porcelain body are identical in quality. The difference lies in the bird species and the level of detail required at each scale. The larger Eichelhäher allows for more pronounced feather textures and a broader palette, while the Rotkehlchen offers a more intimate, subtle rendering.
Decision rules for choosing your Meissen bird figurine
- Space available: If you have a large, uncluttered surface (a mantel, buffet, or console table), the 39 cm Eichelhäher will anchor the area. For a desk, shelf, or small side table, the 12 cm Rotkehlchen is more proportional. Measure your display area before deciding.
- Display style: If you want a single statement piece, choose the Eichelhäher. If you prefer to create a vignette with multiple figurines or accessories, the Rotkehlchen integrates more easily into groupings.
- Budget: The Eichelhäher is priced at USD 6,548.10, reflecting its size and presence. The Rotkehlchen is USD 1,288.80, a more accessible entry point for starting or expanding a collection. Compare the cost per visual impact in your space.
